Yellowbox On-Premise Deployment Architecture (via Kiosk)
Key Summary of the Yellowbox On-Premise Deployment Option
Yellowbox now offers a full-featured on-premise deployment option.
Yellowbox's on-premise deployment option allows workplaces to have enhanced control over their data security, with all infrastructure being managed internally, and on premise within local servers. All data is stored and processed locally within the organisation's own infrastructure, ensuring sensitive user data never leaves the premises.
Headline: There are no compromises on functionality compared to the cloud version. It has feature parity, meaning you can pitch and sell the same capabilities, just hosted on the client's infrastructure.
It's designed to feel like a modern deployment, accessible via the company's internal network (intranet/VPN) from user laptops, not an old-style isolated system.
Server Requirement: Typically requires a dedicated server (physical or VM) on the client's network. Preferably, the client provisions this server themselves.
Alternative Architecture: It's also possible to run the entire on-prem software stack (even for large deployments) on a Yellowbox kiosk, eliminating the need for a separate client-provided server or rack space in the comms room (IDF). This can be an option.
Hardware: No additional Yellowbox hardware is required in the comms room/IDF beyond the server (if that model is chosen). Standard locker hardware remains the same.
Initial setup will involve a ~1-hour remote session with the client's IT team.
Maintenance/updates can be done remotely (screen share, guided support, or direct access if permitted) or via on-site visits, depending on client security policies.
Initial setup might require temporary internet access for downloading the software package, or manual transfer via USB/local means if access is completely blocked.
Firewall: The base on-prem deployment requires no external internet firewall exceptions.
Internal Ports: Communication occurs over specific internal network ports. These ports will be documented in an IT pack for clients who need to configure internal firewall rules.
Pen Tests & Compliance: Yellowbox has ISO 27001 and annual penetration testing.
The base on-premise offering will cost the same as the cloud offering (in terms of recurring software/licensing/support fees).
Hybrid Features Cost More: Integrations that require cloud connectivity (e.g., Microsoft cloud sync, email notifications, potentially complex API integrations) are possible but considered "hybrid on-prem". These add-ons will be charged at ~1.5x the base cost due to increased setup and maintenance complexity.
Web App: The user-facing web app (Yellowbox.app/webapp) works with the on-prem deployment. Users access it when connected to the company network/VPN. This provides mobile access without needing native app installs/MDM complexities.
Admin/Partner Dashboards: Fully available on-prem.
Data Import: Standard methods like CSV upload work.
Integrations: Direct integrations with on-premise systems (like access control via local IP) are possible and will be priced at ~1.5x the normal cloud integration cost.
